CIF : Coding Standards : Internal Navigation and Viewports
CIF modules may be viewed directly or within various sorts of framesets. We use the terms Viewport or wrapper to refer to a frameset which contains CIF content within one or more of the frames in a frameset. Viewports are used to give a customized look and feel to CIF content on multiple web sites.
- Since CIF modules are often viewed within various framesets, a CIF module may not itself be a frameset or depend explicitly on a frameset external to itself.
- Multi-page CIF modules should contain a navigation system on each page showing the relationship of multiple pages to one another. At a minimum, multi-page CIF modules should contain a "Next" and "Previous" link to relate cards to one another within a series.
- Since all pages of a multi-page CIF module live in the same subdirectory, links between CIF pages within a multi-page module should use relative URL addressing with no hardcoded directory specifications above the pages themselves. For example, links between pages within a roses module should be of the form <A HREF="roses02.html">.
- Links which are intended to keep the viewer moving through a CIF module must not contain a <"TARGET="> specification.
- Links which are intended to remove the viewer from the CIF module environment must contain a "TARGET=_TOP" parameter to load the content in the main window and remove the wrapping frameset, "TARGET=SIDEBAR" to load the content into the standard IICN sidebar window, or "TARGET=WHATEVER" to load the content into a custom window.
